Sander Schultz

Gloucester, MA - Sander R. Schultz, born July 12, 1966 in Williamsport, PA, died suddenly in Ipswich, Massachusetts on March 30, 2024.

Sander grew up in Denver, Colorado. After graduating from Cherry Creek High School, Sander joined the US Forest Service as a firefighter and Hot Shot crew member. He enlisted in the Coast Guard, becoming a Bosun's Mate and heavy weather coxswain. He met Sara in the Coast Guard and they married in 1992 in Kodiak, Alaska. Sander was a "plank owner" as one of the original coxswains of the 47 foot motor lifeboat stationed in Gloucester.

Sander left the Coast Guard 1998 and joined the Gloucester Fire Department, where he worked in many capacities for 27 years. He started as a private, became a paramedic, eventually becoming the EMS Coordinator for the City of Gloucester for many years. In 2013, he won the Stroke Healthcare Professional Award from the American Stroke Association. He finished his service on the line as the Engine 2 driver in West Gloucester.

Sander loved helping people and public service. He was a loving and faithful husband and father. He was loved by his extended family and he will be deeply missed.

Sander is survived by his immediate family, Sara, Hunter and Tayler Schultz of Gloucester MA; his father, Robert C. Schultz of Lebanon, NH; his brother Rob Schultz of Hanover NH; as well as extended family.

I worked with Sander on the Flagstaff Hotshot Crew. I am sorry I lost touch with him. I congratulate him on his wonderful career though he left us too soon. My condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and community.
