Sandra J. Albaugh age 84 of White Lake, Michigan, and Visalia, California, passed away on September 24, 2024.
Her family and friends would describe Sandy as a person with a servants heart. She always would help others and put their needs before her own. Sandy was born to John and Martha (Krob) Phillips on January 16, 1940 and was raised in Solon, Iowa. She received her Nursing Degree in Des Moine, Iowa and married Dr. Jerry R. Freiberg, DO on June 23, 1961. They moved to Pontiac, Michigan where Jerry interned and she worked as a surgical nurse at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital. Jerry started his medical practice in Milford, MI and they had three sons Steve, Sean and Shane. Sandy was woven into the fabric of Milford. She was an active member at Christ Lutheran Church and volunteered extensively at church, Johnson Elementary School and the Milford Historic Society. She had a vast network of friends and would often be seen attending house calls with Jerry. Despite her busy schedule she demonstrated her love and generosity by arranging family holidays and get togethers with her children, her parents and her sister Carol and her family. They spent many Christmases in Mesa, AZ building wonderful memories. Sadly she was preceded in death on November 7, 1983 by her husband Jerry. Sandy took on the role of mother and father and devoted herself to raising her three young boys. Through time Sandy's family grew with the addition of daughters-in-law and she continued to build strong family ties. On January 2, 1999, she married her childhood sweet-heart Michael Albaugh from Ely, Iowa and moved to Visalia, California with Mike. Sandy and Mike became very active members of Christ Lutheran Church in Visalia, CA where she was involved in the choir, bible studies and womens' groups. Sandy established a neighborhood watch in her area and built many deep friendships in her church and in her community. Sandy and Mike had many wonderful adventures traveling with their RV across country and coming back to Michigan every summer.
Sandy continued to demonstrate her love of family with family gatherings with her growing Michigan family, Steve (Kim) and granddaughters, Cassie and Kaitlyn; Sean (Candy) and grandchildren, Cooper and Abbey; Shane (Sarah) and granddaughters, Grace (Nick) Ottoy and Leah; Sister Carol (Dan) Scanlan and nieces, Nicole (Tim) Tiefenbach; great niece, Finnley Tiefenbach, and niece Stacey Scanlan-Erskin. While also cultivating family bonds with her new extended California family; step-daughter, Lisa (Jimmy) Miranda and grandchildren, Michael, Tisha (Mike) Hoffstutler and Gabriel; step-son, Curtis (Kelsey) Albaugh and grandchildren, Hannah, Brooke and Braden and great-grandson, Dutton Albaugh; and step-son, Scott and extended family friend, Stephanie Costa.
Sandra is preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Jerry Freiberg, and her second husband, Michael Albaugh.
Sandy will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but we know some day we will be reunited with her in heaven where she will greet us with her beautiful smile.
