Sandra “Sandy” J. Bennett, born July 19, 1964 to Harold and Connie (Creeden) Squires, died peacefully on November 30, 2025. She lived a life marked by creativity, resilience, and love. A Cedar Falls High School graduate, she went on to study cosmetology and later attended the University of Northern Iowa before moving to San Diego. There she married her first husband Scott Robertson and welcomed her only child, daughter, Tara.
Sandy built a successful career as a hairstylist, working with country music artists and participating in photo and video shoots, including work with the Oak Ridge Boys. Her talent earned her the honor of styling former First Lady Barbara Bush for the Bushes’ 50th wedding anniversary celebration at the Grand Ole Opry. In 1997, she was remarried to Greg Bennett.
Her life’s journey took her from California to Tennessee, then to Connecticut and Memphis, where her husband worked on various hospital projects. Eventually, they settled in Franklin, Tennessee, where she lived for nearly 17 years. In 2011, Sandy was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and bravely faced the challenges of the disease, which left her with congestive heart failure. After enduring significant complications, she made an unexpected recovery from a coma in 2018—an event many doctors called a miracle. Though her health never fully returned, she cherished the extra time she was given, especially with spoiling her grandchildren, with whom she spent countless joyful hours reading stories, creating art projects, and baking cookies.
Sandy is survived by her loving daughter, Tara J. Davis, her former son-in-law, James Davis, and her beloved grandchildren Evan, Keeley, and Grayson Davis. Her family remains deeply grateful to the nurses and healthcare teams who supported her throughout her final years. As well as the multiple friends who were like family. Following cremation, her ashes will be distributed back home to Cedar Falls, as well as to the Cape San Blas area. There will be no services.
