Sandy Patricia Caldwell passed away on October 27, 2025, at the age of 72. A long-time resident of Waynesville, NC, Sandy spent her later years in Mount Sterling, NC, surrounded by loved ones.
Sandy dedicated over 40 years to educating and inspiring children as an elementary teacher and administrator with Haywood County Schools. She had a passion for teaching children to read and was an inspiration to countless colleagues and students throughout her career.
Sandy cherished time spent with her dearest friends, Karen Holt, Judy Dowd, Anita Franklin, and Deborah Anderson (and countless others). Together they shared many adventures—traveling, enjoying music and good food, and shopping for antiques. Their friendship brought her great joy throughout the years.
In retirement, Sandy found joy and peace in her flower garden, dedicating her time to nurturing her plants and sharing her love of gardening with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Bell (Kuykendall) Hill; stepfather, Dow Hill; father, James Mack Caldwell Jr.; and brother, Ronnie Ray Caldwell; and brother-in-law Bob Scott. She is survived by her sister, Darlene (Caldwell) Scott; her brother, Keith Hill; sister-in-law Lucy Lowe Hill, and her niece, Kelly Ann Scott.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Wells Event and Reception Center. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until 12:00 p.m. prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a children’s charity of choice in Sandy’s memory.
