Ms. Sandra Kay Cassell Carter, age 78 of Mount Airy, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Novant Heath Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Ms. Carter was born on October 16, 1946, in Grayson County, Virginia to the late Robert Lee and Lillian Elizabeth Glascoe Cassell. Sandra was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Robin Carter Angel and Dennis; two sons and daughter-in-law, William Gaston “Bill” Carter, Jr., Adam Christopher Carter and Jennifer; four grandchildren, Madeline Angel McFadden, Wyatt Dwayne Angel, Piper Abigail Angel, and Violet Gail Carter, Eleanor Rose Carter; and a great-grandchild, Aliza Rose McFadden. In addition to her parents, Ms. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, William Gaston Carter, Sr., one infant sister, Barbara Cassell; and another sister, Rebecca Cassell; and a brother Bobby Cassell. No formal services will be held at this time. A private inurnment will be held at Oakdale Cemetery’s Columbarium at a later date. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
