Sandra Gail Chaffin, 81, of Smelterville, ID, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on March 17, 2025. Sandra was born on November 16, 1943 in Millersburg, OH, the only daughter of Harry and Ila (Middaugh) Tracey.
During her childhood, Sandra’s family relocated to Deer Lodge, MT where she attended high school. It was there she met the love of her life, Merlyn Chaffin. The two were united in marriage on February 25, 1961. To this union were born three children, Maltana, Rance, and LeAnda. Merlyn passed away on September 12, 2021.
Sandra was a school bus driver for the Kellogg School District for numerous years; it was a job she greatly loved. She also drove the trolley in Kellogg for many years. Sandra enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, crocheting, and working puzzles.
Sandra was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pinehurst, ID ward.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Merlyn, Sandra is preceded in death by one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include her three children, Maltana Chaffin of Kellogg, ID, Rance (Laureen) Chaffin of Bridge City, TX, and LeAnda Cannady of Hortonville, WI; 6 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Private family interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg, ID. Her family is planning a celebration of her life this summer.
