Sandra J. Cortez, 83 of Whitestown, passed away Monday, November 4, 2024. Sandra was born June 21, 1941 in Bridgeport, CT to the late James A. Sr., and Lillian Ritchie. She was a graduate of Shortridge High School and later obtained her Bachelor's degree from Indiana Central University, which is now the University of Indianapolis.
Sandra worked in IT for the Department of Defense at Fort Benjamin Harrison for 25 years. She attended E. 91st Street Christian Church and Traders Point Christian Church. Sandra was a Bible Study Fellowship discussion leader for 30 years and was involved in leading women’s bible studies at Wheeler Mission for 10 years. Sandra also enjoyed traveling, the arts and volunteered with non-profit organizations such as Kaleo Indy and Clowes Memorial Hall Women’s committee.
Sandra was the widow of Raymond A. Cortez. She is survived by her brother James (wife, Nancy) Ritchie, her three children, Chris Cortez (wife, Christina), Rena Cortez and Amy Cortez, granddaughter, Alex Cortez and grandson, James Cortez.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, November 11th, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Flanner Buchanan-Carmel, where a memorial service will follow the gathering at 4:00 pm.
