SANDRA CRAWFORD Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Berry-McGreevey-Martens Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Mar. 27, 2026.
Sandra L. Crawford, known as Sandy to most and Sam within the St. Malachi community, was a one of a kind presence whose life was marked by devotion, conviction, and a deep care for others. Quirky and unmistakably herself, Sandy approached life with strong opinions, high standards, and a clear sense of how things should be done, preferably her way. Those who knew her understood that behind that firmness was a fiercely loyal and loving heart.

Sandy took a genuine interest in the lives of those she loved and cared for. She wanted to know what was going on with them and carried their stories with her, sharing their joys, challenges, and milestones as if they were her own. Through this constant sharing, friends who might never have crossed paths came to feel connected to one another. She had a remarkable ability to make friends feel like family.

She was especially close to the children she nannied and took great pride in caring for them. Sandy was deeply protective, attentive, and committed to their well being, holding herself to the highest standards in the care she provided. If you were someone Sandy looked after, you knew you were truly loved.

A proud graduate of Rocky River High School, Sandy spent most of her adult life on the West Side of Cleveland, a place she loved deeply. She was proud of her parents, their hard work, and the legacy they left behind, carrying that pride with her throughout her life. She was also a devoted Cleveland sports fan, faithfully cheering on her hometown teams.

Sandy believed strongly in service to others. As Sam at St. Malachi Church, she faithfully helped to coordinate volunteer cooks for the Monday night meal program, which serves hundreds of people each week in the Cleveland community. Her dedication helped ensure that countless individuals were fed with dignity and care.

Sandra was the daughter of the late Albert Myers Crawford and Florence Elizabeth Crawford (née Neilson). She is survived by a brother, sister-in-law and two nieces.

Sandy will be remembered for her strong will, her protective love, her ability to connect with people, and her unmistakable presence. She leaves behind a legacy of service, advocacy, and community, and a lasting reminder that family is not only who you are born to, but also those you choose to love along the way.

A memorial Mass celebrating Sandy's life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Malachi Church, 2459 Washington Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44113. Donations in her honor may be made to the church at the same address; please include " In Memory of Sam Crawford " in the memo. Contributions will support the Monday Night Meal.

Sandy will be interred privately at Riverside Cemetery.
