Sandra Gull Obituary

Gull, Sandra A.
TROY - Sandra A. Gull, a devoted Troy resident, passed away on September 29, 2024. Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Sandra was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Gull and Ann M. Ricci Gull and was the longtime partner of the late artist, Peter Taylor. Raised in Pittsfield, she later found her heart in Troy, where she became an active part of the community.
Sandra was a graduate of Russell Sage College and earned her master's degree in educational counseling and student personnel from the State University of New York at Albany. Her career spanned both business and higher education, notably at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Lally School of Management and Technology, where she coached MBA students in leadership and teamwork. Her impact extended beyond the campus, as she worked on community development projects supporting local businesses and economic growth.
Recognized for her resourcefulness, heart and service to the community, Sandra was named the Resourceful Woman of the Year by the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region in 2002, where she later was initiated as a Godmother. She was also said to have started the Victorian Stroll, now a beloved annual tradition in downtown Troy, celebrating the city's heritage and charm.
Sandra was known not only for her professional achievements but also for her personal style and humor. Her friends and colleagues remember her as a vibrant presence, with an eye for fashion and a knack for lightening the room with her wit. She served on various boards, including the YWCA, the Rubin Foundation, and the Troy Public Library, and was a founding member of the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall Association.
A memorial will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region in Sandy's name as it always had a special place in her heart. We recommend using the brycefuneralhome.com website to send condolences or light a candle.

Sandra was a bright light to everyone who knew her. We shared an office back in 1980 and became great friends. She taught me the value of starting each day with a cup of tea in a china tea cup (which she gave me as a gift). She loved Nantucket and I went there during the summer of 1980 and returned to tell her all about my trip, only to find that she was in the hospital because of a nearly fatal car accident. It was hard to discover that she had trouble remembering me....but she was a trooper and came back to us over the next few months and was able to celebrate with us at our wedding less than a year later. I can still hear her laugh in my mind. We had some crazy times with a wild Romanian boss. Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed.

We will miss dearly our friend and entertainer! Committed knitter, perpetually late fashion plate, creative force - Sandy´s impact on Troy and it´s newcomers and oldsters alike cannot be overstated! May she rest in peace.
