Sandra Elizabeth Hogan, age 55, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 1st, at her home in
Stamford, CT, due to heart-related issues.
Originally from Hyde Park, MA, the family moved to Marshfield, MA when Sandra was a young girl. Sandra grew up on a small family farm where her lifelong love of animals was nurtured. The Hogan-Murray household was home to an impressive collection of creatures-including more than 30 dairy goats at one point, as well as chickens, ducks, pigs, rabbits, cats, and dogs. This early connection to animals became a central theme in Sandra's life.
She graduated from Marshfield High School and went on to study Animal Science at the University of New Hampshire. Her career path was as diverse and passionate as she was, but animals remained at the heart of it all. Sandra held many jobs over the years that reflected her care for living beings, including founding her own pet sitting business, PawPrints & HoofBeats-a labor of love that allowed her to care for animals and support pet owners in her community.
For over a decade, Sandra also served as the office administrator at the Stamford Church of Christ, where she was lovingly referred to as "the heartbeat of the church." Known for her reliability, kindness, quick wit, and deep compassion, Sandra was more than a colleague-she was family to her coworkers and to the entire church community.
Sandra is survived by her devoted spouse, James Zurzola, and a beloved extended family of fur babies: her treasured dogs, cats, ferrets, sugar gliders, chinchillas, and many more. She was the cherished daughter of the late Theresa (Hogan) Murray and Donald Hogan and her late stepfather George Murray, Sr., and a loving sister to Scott Hogan, Susan (Hogan) Murphy (and her husband Peter Murphy), George Murray Jr., and Julia Murray.
She will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews- Chris Hogan, Joshua Hogan, Warren Stevens, Zooey Stevens, Donovan Murphy, and Emerson Murphy-as well as many others who knew her as their beloved "Auntie Sandy." She also held a special place in her heart for her goddaughter, Mia Estrada.
Sandra lived with love, purpose, and unwavering kindness. Her legacy is one of compassion-for animals, for family, for faith, and for community.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 7th at the Stamford Church of Christ, 1264 High Ridge Road,
Stamford, CT with a visitation at 10:00 am, a memorial service at 11:00 am, and a graveside burial and reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made in Sandra's memory to a local animal rescue organization or to the Sandy Hogan Memorial Fund at StamfordChurch.org.
