Sandra Komes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Healy Chapel Funeral & Cremation Services - Sugar Grove Facility on Oct. 1, 2025.
Sandra Mae (Runge) Komes, age 79 of Hinckley, Illinois, passed away on September 24, 2025 at home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on October 26, 1945, in Aurora, Illinois, to the late Fred and Louise (Zagorce) Runge.
She graduated from East Aurora High School in 1963.
Sandra married Dave Komes on May 8, 1965, at Sacred Heart Church and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, DeKalb, Illinois.
She retired from Dreyer Medical, now Advocate, in Aurora, Illinois, where she worked in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.
Sandy had a gift for tackling any DIY project and a true love for fine fabrics and textiles. What she treasured most, though, was time with her family-especially the joy of celebrating holidays together and making lasting memories with her grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren were the most cherished part of her life. Sandy also enjoyed spending time with Dave at their home in Hayward, Wisconsin, as well as wintering in Florida.
She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (Tom) Oker and Teri (John) Gurchiek; her son, Chris (Stephanie) Komes; and her daughters, Amanda Komes-Leifheit (Jon Yeater) and Abigail (Tony) Michels; her grandchildren, Madeline Gurchiek, Benjamin and Margaret Komes, Lydia Oker, William, and Mallory Leifheit; her great-grandchildren, Camden and Avery; her brother, Fred Runge; her sister, Linda (Mike) Babcock; her brother-in-law, Don (Sheree) Komes as well as many nieces and nephews who were like her children.
We are deeply grateful to the family and friends who stood by Sandy and her family during her cancer journey.
Along with her parents Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; her three infant siblings; her father and mother-in-law, Earl and Lousie Komes; her sisters-in-law, Judy Runge and Jane Wood and brother-in-law, Doug Komes.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 3:30 p.m. with her visitation to be held following from 4-7 P.M. at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove, Illinois. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Sandy's name be made online or sent to Gilda's Club Chicago, 537 North Wells Street, Chicago, IL 60654
