SCHAFER, Sandra L. (previously known as Sandra L Codling), passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at the age of 83.
She was born in Ripley, Ohio, the daughter of the late Robert and Lora (nee Blackburn) Schafer.
She is survived by her loving children Kathy (Billy) Rottenberger, Les (Kristi) Codling, and Sandy (Bill) Puthoff. Mother-in-law to Earl Hickson.Loving grandmother of Kris Hickson, Stephanie (Tony) Hickson, David (Beth) Hickson, Kadi (David) Moorman, Sarah (Taylor) Frohmiller, Zac (Haley) Codling, Bee Puthoff, and Ally Puthoff.Great Grandmother of Taylor, Kori, and Andie Moorman, Miles Mays, Olivia Newton, and Cali Codling.She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.Sandy is preceded in death by her daughter Barbara “Jeanie” Hickson, her grandson Sam Codling, and her dear friend Leslie L. Codling and her siblings Bob (Bea) Schafer and Karen (Herm) Dean.Sandy was a dedicated Lay Associate of the Sisters of Charity.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on SATURDAY, January 17, 2026, at 11:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 745 Ezzard Charles Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45203. Please wear something RED to honor Sandy’s memory.In accordance with her wishes, Sandy’s body was donated to the UC College of Medicine, for medical education and research.
