Sandra Shald Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Seger Funeral Home, Inc. - Stuart on Jan. 5, 2025.
Sandra Lee Shald, 85, of Ashland, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 14, 1939, in Atkinson, Sandra was the beloved daughter of Velda and Fern Davis. She attended Atkinson Public Schools, where she created lifelong memories and friendships. A proud Atkinson native, Sandra was crowned Atkinson Hay Days Queen in 1957, a reflection of her grace and charm.
In her younger years, Sandra worked at the local drugstore in Atkinson, where her quick wit and warm personality made her a favorite among customers. She later devoted herself to family life and married the love of her life, Ivo Leon Shald, on June 17, 1959. Together, they shared 25 wonderful years of marriage before his untimely passing in 1984. Their union was blessed with seven children. Sandra is survived by her daughters Sherry (Don) Miller of Sidney; Jenise (Monte preceded in death) Brown of Omaha; Stephanie (Myron) Weir of Hershey; Vanessa (Blaine) Drueke of Alvo; and Julie (Jason) Savage of Kremmling, CO; daughter-in-law Susanne Shald (Darryl preceded in death) of Lincoln; her sisters Sharon Wenner of Atkinson and Linda (Vince)Fundus of Atkinson; many nieces and nephews; her grandchildren: Cassondra, Dillon, Jenilee, Travis, Lucas, Natalie, Caleb, Brie, Logan, Alanna, Tyler, Austin, Rachel and Madison and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ivo Leon Shald; her children, Camilla Shald and Darryl Shald; her parents, Velda and Fern Davis; and her son-in-law Monte Brown.
Sandra was a dedicated farm wife, helping to run the family farm while nurturing a loving home. She extended her care to others by providing daycare for children, both on the farm and later in Omaha after her husband's passing. She worked as a Medication Aide at Parkside Manor before moving to Omaha. In Omaha, she eventually became an activities director at assisted living facilities, where her kindness and energy enriched the lives of many. She retired in 2005, leaving behind a legacy of care and compassion.
Sandra had a giving spirit and loved helping others. She volunteered tirelessly for the American Legion Auxiliary and was known for carpooling children all over the county for school and sporting events. She also contributed to her community as a Girl Scout and Brownie leader and was very active at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stuart as a CCD teacher, a choir member, and a substitute teacher. Her creativity also shone through the exquisite wedding cakes she crafted for countless couples, each one a masterpiece that brought joy to their special day.
A true gem of a person, Sandra was quick-witted, ornery in the best way, classy, and generous. She was a second mom to many of her daughters' friends, a friend to many, and a stranger to none, always making those around her feel valued and loved. Sandra's sweet nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She brought her creativity to life through watercolor painting, crafting, and gardening, filling her home and yard with beauty. Her joy extended to dancing, playing cards with her cherished card club, solving jigsaw puzzles, and challenging family and friends to games of Chinese checkers. She loved sharing stories and wisdom, whether from long ago or days not long gone, often accompanied by a wisecrack that would bring a smile.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Seger Funeral Home in Stuart, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Sandra's funeral will take place on January 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stuart. Interment will follow at Stuart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Josie Harper Hospice House in Sandra's memory, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others.
Sandra will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and compassion that will continue to inspire and comfort those who loved her.
