Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory - LynchburgSandra Louise Snell, 79, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the devoted wife of the late Ronnie James Snell, with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories.
Sandra (Sandy) was born on Saturday, June 1, 1946, in Fairmont, WV. She was the daughter of the late Lake Junior Swisher and Oleta Pickens Swisher.
After Sandy married Ronnie, she moved to New Jersey and then to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley community of Weyers Cave, VA. After her husband passed away, Sandy moved to Lynchburg to be closer to her daughter. Sandy was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and enjoyed visits with her family, lunches with friends, reading her Bible and watching a good movie. In her earlier years, she enjoyed sewing and crafting for family and friends. Her greatest joys were spending time with her grandchildren and family trips to the Outer Banks. For many years, Sandy served as a secretary for the School of Music at Liberty University, where her organizational talents and warm presence enriched the lives of students and faculty alike. Throughout her life, she was known for her sweet demeanor and warm smile. Sandy always expressed how thankful she was for the kindness and help of those in her life right up to the very end. Sandy was ready to meet her savior, Jesus Christ, because of the work He had done in her heart many years ago as a young girl.
Sandy is survived by her daughter, Shannon Lynn Carroll and her husband, Tom; her son, Bradley James Snell and his wife, Michelle; four grandchildren, Daniel Carroll and his wife, Sarah; Jessica Carroll, Ashley Snell, and Aiden Snell; and her brother, Larry Swisher and his wife, Nancy.
The family would like to extend their gratitude for the compassion and care they received from the Lynchburg and Bedford Centra Hospice teams and Karis Care Services personnel.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Sandy’s life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Inurnment will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in Saint Paul Cemetery, Weyers Cave, VA.
