Sandra June Spooner, 82, of Flat Rock, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023.
Lovingly referred to as Sandi, she was born in Hinsdale, Illinois, to the late Ray and Norma Aurin; she is also reunited with her sister Marlene Garrison.
Other than her home state of Illinois Sandi's prior residences were Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Ohio, but ultimately made North Carolina her forever home. Sandi attended Iowa Wesleyan University and later had careers as a teacher and paralegal. The job she enjoyed the most was being a mother to her beloved children.
In Sandi's free time, she was fond of gardening, reading, quilting, and playing Mahjong. Most of all she found happiness and comfort in being with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish Sandi's memory are her loving husband of sixty years, John Spooner; daughters Rebecca Cheren of Morristown, New Jersey, and Heather Garrant (Phil) of Washington, D.C., son David Spooner (Jennifer) of Athens, Georgia; and grandchildren Jake, Meghan, Ben and Sam Garrant, Hannah, Olivia and Rachel Cheren and Eli Spooner. Sandi also leaves behind her nieces Linda Tikofsky (Jeff), and Laura Forbes (Greg), nephew Jeff Garrison (Nancy), and her special friends in the Mahjong gang.
A graveside service for Sandi will be announced next Spring in the Bronswood Cemetery of Oakbrook, Illinois.

Sandi was a kind, warm-hearted friend who taught me the game of Mah Jongg, shared recipes with me, including her special cranberry sauce which we still enjoy on holidays, and an avid quilter who was a faithful member of our "Pickles" Club."
