Sandra L. Stonis, 78, of Marshall, MN, formerly of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. A private interment will take place at a later date at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, AZ.
Sandra “Sandy” (Lanoue) Stonis was born on January 17, 1945, in Marshall, MN, to Harold and Genevieve (Stassen) Lanoue. She grew up on the farm in the Marshall/Green Valley area. She attended Holy Redeemer School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1963. Sandy worked for Dr. McGuiggan for a year and then moved to Minneapolis, where she worked from the University of Minnesota dental school. Later she moved to Scottsdale, AZ, and resided there for 30 years working as a bookkeeper for Cosanti Originals, Inc.
Sandy married Alexander Stonis in 1987. She returned to Marshall in 2018 and lived at Boulder Estates. She was a collector of stamps, coins, jewelry, and art.
Sandy is survived by her siblings Carol (Lloyd) Welbig of Spearfish, SD, Thomas (Kathy) Lanoue of Cary, NC, Pam (Don) Davis of Milton, FL, and Randy (Lorine) Lanoue of Marshall, MN, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Alexander and her parents Harold and Genevieve.
