Sandra “Sandy” Thompson- Hardwick, age 81, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Per Sandy and her family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Sandra Thompson was born on May 23, 1944 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Thomas and Jean (Owen) Thompson. Sandy attended Marshalltown High School and graduated with the class of 1962. On July 1, 1989, she married Stephen Hardwick at the Salvation Army in Marshalltown. Sandra held various jobs during her working career. One of the most gratifying positions that she ever had, was working as an office manager for the Salvation Army for a total of 40 years. She also worked at Kwik Star stores for an additional 14 years until her retirement in 2012. In her free time, Sandy enjoyed taking car rides, playing bingo at the casino, and watching movies and soap operas. Sandra organized and was in charge of planning the family’s yearly trips to Brandson, MO. She was the unofficial 20 year-tour guide for her whole family. Spending time with family was very important to Sandy. She will be dearly missed by all those who love her.
Sandra is survived by her husband Stephen Hardwick; her daughter Jennyfer “Jenny” Hicks; her grandchildren: Nik, Evan, and Noelani Berg; her siblings: Carrol Dannen and Tommy Thompson; sister-in-law, Ruth (Doug) Bracy; and brother-in-law Manuel Neave.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Thomas and Jean; her sisters: Marylin Bryant, Connie Rickett, and Brenda Neave; her brothers in law: Raymond Rickett and Gary Dannen; and her infant siblings: Brent, Stephen, Paul, and Paulette.
