Sandra L Uy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, died at home, surrounded by her children, on September 2nd, 2024, just shy of her 81st birthday. She was born on September 18, 1943, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to Frank Svitek and Mary J. Vargo Svitek. She attended local schools and graduated from Canon-McMillan Senior High School in 1961. She then attended McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing, an extension of Penn State University, graduating in 1965 as a registered nurse. Sandy was known as “Sweetie” to her nursing school classmates.

Sandy worked as a registered nurse in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Connecticut, and Central Missouri. She met Dr. Wilson Uy while working at McKeesport Hospital. They married in Uniontown, Pennsylvania on July 15th, 1968. After stops in Bridgeport, Conn, Morgantown, West Virginia, and Columbia, Missouri, the family settled in Coffeyville, Kansas in 1973, where Dr Uy was the Director of Pathology at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center until his retirement in 1998. After his retirement, they travelled throughout the world.

Sandy was involved in numerous organizations during her time in Coffeyville and was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. After the death of her husband, she relocated to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma near her son, and was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Parish. With an adventurous streak, she continued to be a world traveler for many years. She will be remembered as a supportive wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, favorite aunt and beloved friend.

Sandy is preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Uy. Survivors include a sister Pat Severns and husband, Frank of McMurray, Pennsylvania, a brother, Frank David Svitek and wife, Ellen of West Palm Beach, Florida, a daughter, Dr. Rosalynda Uy and her husband, Ismael Rodriguez of Manhattan, Kansas and a son, Dr. Nathan Uy and his wife, Dr. Claudia Cea of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She had six grandchildren, Nathan Uy Jr, Oscar Uy, Christian Uy, Noel Uy, Soledad Rodriguez, and Lake Rodriguez. She was also loved and cared for by a wonderful team of caregivers including Noemi Garcia, Rosie Chavez - Padilla, and Narda Isabel Brizuela.

Services will be held at 1pm September 13, 2024 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, Kansas. Rosary will begin at 12:45 pm. She will then be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Holy Name Catholic Church Alter Society or the McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association in Sandy’s name.
