She is also survived by siblings, Constancio and Domingo Palacios, and Anayansi Quintero of Panama, Hope Valdez, Rudy Valdez (Mary) of New Braunfels, Martin Valdez (Ana) from Dallas, Pete Valdez (Rosario) from Round Rock, Gilbert Valdez from St. Augustine, FL, Raul Valdez (Joy) from Pflugerville, and Diana Coon (Paul) from Dallas; sister-in-law Sidelia Valdez (Valentine); and numerous nieces and nephews both in Texas and in Panama.
Sandra and Mingo met while he was serving active duty with the US Army and was stationed in Colon, Panama. They married on March 31, 1970 in a small family ceremony where she was escorted by her father, Guillermo. Upon Mingo's tour ending and his return to the states, the required documentation was completed for Sandra to move to New Braunfels, Texas to join Mingo. They started their married life in the town she eventually called home and raised their family. Sandra took much pride in becoming a Naturalized US Citizen within a few years of her move to Texas.
Sandra studied English as a second language and after acclimating to her new life, she was employed by the textile plant, Mission Valley Mills/Westpoint Pepperell, for nearly 30 years until the plant closure, having built long time friendships. During her children's early years she volunteered many Sundays with the CCD religious education program at local Catholic parishes in New Braunfels.
Sandra truly treasured her time with her grandchildren and took much joy in being actively involved in their lives. She rarely missed a school event, sport or band activity and proudly wore the attire supporting her grandchildren at such events. Her grandchildren spent many school breaks and holidays enjoying being spoiled by Grandma and Grandpa. She leaves many happy memories for her grandchildren. Sandra will always be remembered as a loving and generous spouse, parent, and grandparent who always had a smile on her face.
A celebration of life will be held at Lux Funeral Home on Friday, March 28, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a service at 6:00 PM. At a later date her immediate family will gather for a distribution of ashes to grant her last wishes
