In Memory of

Sandra Wood Wilkes

1949 - 2025

Mrs. Sandra Wood Wilkes, beloved mother and "Grammie," passed away on August 24, 2025 in Alpharetta, Georgia. Sandy was born on May 2, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA to Nancy Landis Wood and Frank Arcturus Wood, Jr. both of Wyncote, PA. Sandy was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, James Claiborne Wilkes, Jr. (February 21, 2004).

She is survived by her older sister Nancy W. Mayes (Jay), younger brother J. David Wood, as well as her two children, James Claiborne Wilkes III (Lauren) and Stephen Wood Wilkes (Tiffany) as well as her four grandchildren Jimmy (16), Alison (16), Billy (14), and Austin (12).

After graduating from Cheltenham High School, she earned a Bachelor of Science from Ursinus College in 1971 and majored in Health and Physical Education. While in college, she was a member of the Phi Alpha Psi Sorority. She met her husband, Jim, while at Ursinus College and they were married in 1972. Sandy was inducted into the Ursinus College Hall of Fame in 1989 for Field Hockey, Lacrosse, and Swimming. She also played on the United States Field Hockey Team in 1971 where she traveled around the world.

She enjoyed watching her grandchildren's sports (soccer, tennis, cheerleading, and basketball), baking Christmas cookies, playing mixed doubles with her son Stephen, and spending summers at the shore in Stone Harbor, NJ. She was a great tennis player like her mother and father. Sandy enjoyed spending time with her two sons and four grandchildren.

Sandy's life was guided by her love of her family and her memory will forever be in our hearts.

A private memorial will be held on September 28, 2025.
