Sanford “Sam” Junior Proffitt, age 73, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born June 2, 1952 to the late Sanford David Proffitt and Florence Harmon Proffitt. In addition to his parents, Sam/Junior was preceded in death by his son, Lucas Scott Proffitt; granddaughter, Neveah Anne-Nicole; brothers, Billy Jack Ward, Ray Ward, and Deck Ward; and sister, Martha Smith.
Sam/Junior was known for being a cut up and enjoying life. He loved the Tennessee mountains. Above all he loved the Lord, and he loved his church family at Sink Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Teresa Proffitt; daughters, Gabrielle Nicole Proffitt (Steve) and Chelsea Anne Proffitt; sons, Robert Lance Proffitt (Paula) and Jeremy Wayne Proffitt (Sonni); brother, Terry Wayne Proffitt (Anita); 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Devin Krah, Jesse Arnold, and too many others to mention them all.
There will be no formal service held.
