Sang Ill Lee was born on August 15, 1957 in South Korea. Her parents were Jae Woo Lee and Chae Soon (Eh) Lee. She immigrated to the United States, when she was 22, where she settled in the Kansas City area. She had two children, a son Joseph who was born in South Korea, and after immigrating to the United States she gave birth to her daughter Miwha who was born in Kansas. She worked multiple jobs to provide for her two children.

After she retired, she moved to California to be closer to her daughter. In retirement she enjoyed going to her Korean church and travelling. She also spent a lot of time at the gym, enjoying the sauna and pool, while socializing with her Korean friends. In her final years, she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law. While there, she enjoyed passing her time by watching Korean dramas, listening to Korean music, watching her church services, and cooking for and feeding her dogs (Sweetie and Neo).

Sang Ill Lee passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025. She was a devoted mother to Joseph and Miwha. She was known for her warmth, kindness and strength. She had a passion and dedication to her church from volunteering to cooking. She is survived by her two children Joseph Suk (Yessa) and Miwha Suk-Miller (Daniel). She is also survived by multiple siblings, nieces and nephews that reside in South Korea. Her legacy of kindness and her faith in God will never be forgotten.
