Sara Winton Burdette, age 97, of Iva, SC, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Iva Post Acute.
Born October 17, 1927, in Iva, SC, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Ernest and Ether Mae Latham Burdette. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Louisa Burdette Bryant and brother-in-law, William Austin Bryant.
Sara graduated from Forrest College and was a member of Union Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years. She also gave the devotionals for the senior meetings as long as she was able and was known for her amusing stories about old times. Her memory was amazing, and she was quoting poetry to her therapists in her 97th year. Sara wrote poems and was a lover of country music (especially Johnny Cash) and the Andy Griffith tv show. She was a huge Clemson football fan and never missed a game on tv. She loved people and parties, and everyone called her "Miss Sara".
She is survived by her niece, Rebecca (Becke) Bryant, who had the honor and privilege of looking after her when she was no longer able to live independently. She was also survived by cousins, dear friends and her beloved caregiver, Margaret Whitten.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 1-2 pm at Union Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Mike McMillion and Rev. Steve Hardy officiating. Burial will follow at Iva City Cemetery.
Becke would like to thank Iva Post Acute; AnMed Primary Care Family Medicine Residency; Interim Home Health Care (especially Will, who went above and beyond); and also, Hospice of the Upstate for their compassionate and excellent care.
