Cherryville – Mrs. Sara Hicks Wright, 84, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Atrium Health in Lincolnton.
Sara was born on October 27, 1940 in Rowan County, NC a daughter of the late Carl R. Hicks and Addie Chapman Hicks. She was a graduate of Cherryville High School. Sara worked as an office manager for Sears in Gastonia for 10 years and was a homemaker. She had a special talent for floral design, sewing and decorating. Sara loved watching old movies, especially Gone with the Wind. She loved Elvis Presley and his music gave her much happiness. Sara loved going to ballgames for many years for her children and grandchildren. Holidays with family were always on her mind and spending time with her family was her favorite thing to do. She loved her family and her family loved her. Sara will be dearly missed but our memories of her will live on in our hearts forever.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dr. H. Floyd Wright; a son, Jim Wright; a sister, Ann Hicks Beam and a nephew, Michael Jarrett.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Alison Painter of Lake Norman; a son, David Wright of Cherryville; five grandchildren, Tyler Wright (Parrish), Dr. Charlie Wright, Katie Henry (Drake), Drew Wright, McKinsey Wright; two nephews, Blair Beam of Carolina Shores and Bruce Jarrett of Clemson.
The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Monday, February 24, 2025 at the home, 606 Eaker Circle, Cherryville, NC 28021.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Painter officiating.
Burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, PO Box 100, Cherryville, NC 28021.
