Lois Brooks Sheets, age 88, of Mint Hill, NC, formerly of Squire, WV, passed away Monday, October 6, 2025, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House. She was born January 18, 1937, in McDowell County, WV to the late James Carl and Margaret Gretchin McCann Brooks. Lois began teaching at the age of 19 and retired in 1989 after 33 years in education. She received her Masters’ Degree from Berea College. Lois taught mostly in elementary education, with kindergarten being one of her favorite grades and also spent a few years serving as a principal. She was well loved by her students and continued having students check in with her through the years. Lois was an avid West Virginia Mountaineer fan and loved their basketball and football teams. She enjoyed wordsearch puzzles and reading, especially romance novels. She sang for many years in a Gospel Quartet and formerly attended Endwell United Methodist Church. One of Lois’ favorite pastimes included day traveling to many interesting places with her beloved husband, Toe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Albert Otto “Toe” Sheets, Jr.; brothers, Leslie Wayne Brooks, Sr. and J.C. Brooks; and sister, Carol Murphy.

Survivors include her brother-in-law, David Murphy; nephews and nieces, Leslie Wayne Brooks, Jr. (Tracy), John Brooks, Sherry Brooks, Deborah Murphy, Ritchie Murphy, Kevin Murphy, and Alicia Brooks; numerous great nieces and nephews; and her many kind neighbors of Squire, West Virginia.
