Sarah Ruth Grisham Cockrell, affectionately known as Gramma Sarah, passed away peacefully on the 1st of November, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on the 8th of August, 1944, in New Albany, MS, she was a beacon of love and kindness throughout her life. Sarah's journey on earth may have concluded, but the legacy she leaves behind will continue to flourish for generations to come.
Sarah was the cherished matriarch of a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Morris and Cladis Herring Grisham, her brothers Jimmy Lee Grisham, Boyce Ferrel Grisham, and Ricky Lynn Grisham, and her beloved husband, James Cockrell. Her memory will be lovingly carried on by her two sons, Terry Dale Grant (Erin) and Roger Keith Grant (Christy), her sisters Loretta Robins, Linda Fay Cook (Eddie), and Teresa Burks, along with her adored seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
She worked until her retirement from Washington Furniture. She was a woman of great integrity and dedication, qualities that were evident in her every endeavor. Sarah's tireless work ethic and her ability to connect with people from all walks of life made her a treasured member of every team she was part of.
Those who were fortunate enough to know Sarah will remember her for the warmth and generosity she exuded. She had an extraordinary ability to make each person feel valued and loved. Sarah's home was always open, her table always set, and her advice always wise. Her laughter was infectious, and her presence could light up the darkest of rooms.
Services to honor the life of Sarah Cockrell will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 3:00 pm, with a visitation for friends and family from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, all taking place at United Funeral Service.
