Middletown, RI - Sarah Kristina (Bergkvist) Cosgrove, 97, of 600 Valley Road, Middletown, RI, died Friday, February 25, 2011 at John Clarke Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late John Cosgrove. Born in Springfield, MA, on July 26, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Gustav and Marie (Stoleberg) Bergkvist. Mrs. Cosgrove worked as a watch maker for Croton Watch Company in Putnam County, NY for many years. She also worked in the Candy Shop at the John Clarke Health Care Center and made lap blankets for the Odyssey House. Mrs. Cosgrove loved crocheting, the candy store, crafts for John Clarke's Christmas Fair, talking politics and shopping at Walmart. Mrs. Cosgrove won numerous Citizens of the Month awards when she lived in NY. She was acknowledged for her work with the Association for the Advancement of the Blind and Retarded, Inc. She received Certificates of Merit for her support of the Mayo Clinic for Alzheimer's Disease Research. She also received letters from President Reagan and his wife Nancy for her support of his Presidency. She is survived by her son, Robert Cosgrove and his wife Arlene of Brooklyn, NY, six grandchildren, Theresa Gomer and her husband Jeff of Newport, RI, James Cosgrove of Phoenix, AZ, Johnny Cosgrove of Maplewood, NJ, Kelly Cosgrove of Florida, Ricky Cosgrove of Ohio, and Kim Cosgrove of Connecticut, three great grandchildren, Jessie, Eric and Riley and five great-great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late William Cosgrove and the sister of the late Raymond Bergkvist, Gloria Arne, Rosie Bergkvist and Tootsie Bergkvist. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March, 1, 2011, at 7:00pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 1st, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Burial will take place in Brooklyn, NY at a later date. The family wishes to thank all of the staff of the John Clarke Health Care Center for their tremendous care and compassion. They would also like to thank the staff at Odyssey House for their understanding and empathy in their time of sadness and grief
