Sarah Gorden Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bowser Family Funeral Home - Mena on Apr. 1, 2025.
Sarah Elisabeth Gorden, age 87, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Heart of Hospice in Fort Smith, Arkansas surrounded by her family. She was born on Saturday, May 24, 1937, to Curtis Cross and Corene Railes in Board Camp, Arkansas.
Sarah's life was a beautiful testament to love, faith, and family. She married her husband Bob on October 8,1957. She cherished her time with family above all else. She was a loving mother and Nanny who took great pride in making her house into a loving home.
Cooking for others was a love language for Sarah. She loved being in the kitchen and called it her happy place. Every dish served with a dash of love.
She was known for her delicious chicken and rice, potato casserole, strawberry cakes and the very best sweet tea. She had a bit of a sweet tooth and never turned down chocolate.
Together, Bob and Sarah owned the sale barn in Potter for over 45 years. During this time they were able to work along side their two sons and grandson. A true family owned business ran with heart and soul. One of her proudest accomplishments was being named Polk County Farm Family of the year as well as Western District Farm Family of the year in 2013. The plaque still proudly displayed in the living room.
Sarah also enjoyed her independence. She loved her years spent working within the Walmart clothing department with great friends.
She was always up for any adventure.
She loved to travel with family and friends.
Sarah loved soaking up the sun from the island shores of Hawaii to the sandy beaches in Florida.
On her travels she explored New York and sailed the ocean on a cruise.
Sarah loved a good opportunity to go shopping. She always looked forward to the War Eagle craft fair, and loved her surprise birthday trip to the Pioneer Woman Farm.
Sarah was a strong woman, mother and Nanny. A woman whose influence will change lives for generations to come.
Nanny's kindness, warmth, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Sarah is preceded in death by her parents; her aunt and uncle who raised her, Floyd and Johnny Hughes; her husband of 58 years, Bob Gorden and her son, Kent Gorden.
Sarah is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Brent and Dedria Gorden of Mena; one sister and brother in law, Barbara and James Hill of Mena; six grandchildren, Tosha Lance and husband, Mike of Waldron, Kyle Gorden and wife, Treell of Benton, Katy Gorden of Conway, and Ally Hull of Jacksonville, Chelsea Garrison of Mena and Luci and husband, Mark Cannon of Mena; great-grandchildren, Kailie Brewer, Abigail Lance, Andrew Lance, Timber Gorden, Archer Gorden, Creek Gorden, Jasper Holt, Ember Holt, Hunter Cannon and Annie Cannon; Aunt, Betty Hughes; her special friend, Kim Trickey of Benton, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at the Dallas Avenue Baptist Church with Brother Max Deaton and Brother Mike Lance officiating.
