Born on May 28, 1932, in Elkmont, Alabama, Sarah was the daughter of Grady and Lillie (Pinkleton) Johns. She dedicated her life to caring for others, working as a beautician in the healthcare industry. Her warmth and generosity extended beyond her profession into every aspect of her life.
Sarah was a devoted member of Jalapa Road Freewill Baptist Church and an active participant in the Red Hat Society. She found joy in crocheting and cherished her time at church, where she lovingly served in the kitchen and contributed to community yard sales.
She is survived by her daughters: Peggy Sue (Danny) Shepherd of Hammond, Pamela (Art) Ullom of Fort Wayne, Cynthia (Bill) Hexamer of Fort Wayne, and Melissa (Dan) Morigi of Merrillville; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jerry W. Johns; her brother, Gilbert Johns; and three grandsons, Tony Johnson, Jon Michael Johnson, and Scott Collins.
Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Hello, This is Kelly Payne-Jeffrey.
I am so sorry for your loss. Sarah was a wonderful person.
She was fun to be around and her and mom kept us kids in line. We had a lot of fun. I sure do miss that neighborhood . You would be surprised if you went back there with all the changes. I believe the only people or person still there is Karl Kughen .
Mom (Dixie)died in 2018 from kidney failure. Dad Wally died in 2022 cancer. He had a trach and a stomach tube. Us 4 kids and my daughter Kayla took care of my dad till he died.
I remember we had a lot of fun in that neighborhood. I remember when Sarah would say girls let's run up to Sweetser to Johns and get Pepsi and a candy bar. Kelly call your mom so she will know where your at. We would go swimming but our house play kickball out front. We had a lot of fun. I am living in Muncie. Tell Missy I said hello. She can email me sometime at [email protected]. all of you take care may God be with you. Tell Missy I have 2 Grandsons 1 is 14 the other will be 13 in November. No granddaughters. Kayla had just 1 the other is a step grandson but he's a good kid. The oldest Is Skylar he's the step
grandson the other is my grandson his name is Draven . Take care.
