In Loving Memory of Sarah Susan Saunders August 31, 2025 • Age 72 • Ferris, Texas Sarah Susan Saunders, affectionately known as Susan and lovingly called Granny by those closest to her, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, at the age of 72 in Ferris, Texas. Susan was the cherished wife of Robert Saunders, her devoted partner of nearly 54 years. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering commitment. She was a proud and nurturing mother to Sarah Vreeland and her husband Mark, and Monica Wallace and her husband Jehu. Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren-Nicolas, Matthew, and Joseph Vreeland; Trace Baxter; and Trinity Casas-and her great-granddaughter, Adaline, who brought her endless joy. She is also survived by her sister, Gayle Hall and husband Marc, and her brother, Larry Ducote. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bettye Ducote, whose values and warmth she carried forward in her own life. Susan will be remembered for her boundless generosity, sharp wit, and passion for cooking. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where meals were made with love and stories were shared over steaming plates. Her door was always open, and anyone who entered was welcomed not just as a guest, but as family. Her spirit, kindness, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Services Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 6, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Chapel Service at 2:00 PM, at: Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home 1041 Highway West 79 Rockdale, TX 76567
