After graduating two years early from Rockdale High School in 1939 at the age of 15 as Valedictorian, she received an academic scholarship to the University of Texas in Austin where she attended one year. She left to work as a secretary for the State of Texas before eloping with her high school sweetheart, T.A. Weems , on May 4, 1941. They were married over 60 years. The young couple lived in West Columbia, Texas, before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where her husband, T.A., had received a football scholarship. Following Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, T.A. enlisted in the Army Air Corp and the couple lived in Fort Worth and in North Carolina. Additionally, fishing at their cabin in Matagorda with family and friends brought her great joy and many fabulous memories were created there. She loved her family with an unconditional love and by doing so established a legacy of love through the generations. Following the death of her beloved husband she enjoyed traveling with her canasta friends and enjoyed playing canasta until she was 101.
