Sarah Maurer Seuntjens was born on April 22, 1980, to Dr. James and Judy Maurer in San Francisco, CA. Sarah grew up in Amarillo, TX, and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1998. Sarah excelled as a competitive golfer and competed in high school and junior golf tournaments across the United States. She was recruited by several top golf programs and ultimately accepted a scholarship to attend Oklahoma State University, a top five nationally ranked program. Sarah would later be called back to her Texas roots and transferred to Texas A&M University where she graduated in 2002 with a B.S. in Economics. Sarah would later meet the love of her life, Charles Seuntjens, in law school at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN, where she received her Juris Doctor in 2006.
Sarah and Charlie married on July 28, 2007, in Detroit Lakes, MN. They spent the first few years of their marriage in Owatonna, MN, where they both practiced law. They would eventually move to Detroit Lakes and settle into their home on Lake Melissa where they would raise their family. They were blessed with two children, Isabella Judith and Grayson Charles.
Sarah was a dedicated and loving mother giving her all to both Isabella and Grayson, keeping them active and engaged both with friends and in sports.
Sarah herself was a very active individual excelling at golf, downhill skiing, surfing, waterskiing, and biking. She was a true competitor at heart and excelled at anything and everything she tried. She was also mom to the family German Shepard, Zoey. Sarah took Zoey everywhere even on early morning coffee runs while going through chemotherapy treatment.
While she struggled with a terrible illness that would steal her life far too early, she never lost sight of her family and what mattered most. She was a loyal and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. Those close to her will miss her vibrant, honest, and purposeful nature. She was admired for her true courage and strength in the face of adversity.
Left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband of 17 years Charles Seuntjens of Detroit Lakes, MN; children Isabella (14) and Grayson (12); parents Dr. James and Judy Maurer of Ponte Vedra, FL; sisters Aimee (Jon) Ullrich of Lake Park, MN and Jennifer (Tom) Bailey of St. Augustine, FL. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Sarah is preceded in death by her grandparents Dr. John R. and Georgia Goff, C.D. and Florence Maurer, and brother, John Quinlan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday August 10, 2024; 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church in rural Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., also at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes.
Our family wishes to express our sincere appreciation for all the prayers, phone calls, visits, meals, rides and many other acts of kindness shown during the time of Sarah's illness and our time of need. It has been greatly appreciated and we are so thankful to have such wonderful and loving friends and family. May God bless you and keep you.
