Sarah P. Steele, of
Griffin, Georgia, departed this life on earth and entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior on September 26, 2025. She was born on April 9, 1931 in
Griffin, GA. As a little girl, she lived and attended school in Concord, GA. Later her family moved back to Griffin where she met and married the love of her life. She led a life of grace and dedication to her husband and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Penley and Clara Flournoy Watts, her devoted husband of 69 years, Ralph Steele, brother David Watts, and sisters Leona Penley and Margie Fowler.
Sarah worked at Dundee Mill/Lowell Bleachery where she dedicated 40 years of service before retiring.
After her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling with their best friends and with First Friends of FNB. She also found joy in the challenge of jigsaw puzzles, crosswords and word search. She completed 60+ pages of a word search book that special friends Rhenee and Gene Barber brought her while in rehab at Sylvan Grove in 3 weeks and up until her last day at home before she passed. She loved to read her Bible and a good book, many times reading the same book more than once. She was also a big Atlanta Braves fan.
Her faith and hope in Jesus remained strong even until the end was near. She cried out to Jesus many times to help her and she would say "HE DID." She was a member of Rock Springs Church but recently was attending Christ Chapel Zebulon with her family. She always asked on Saturdays, "are we going to church tomorrow?" Her sweetness and kindness touched the lives of many.
Sarah is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Glass (Wayne), Georgette Hoard (Johnny), her grandchildren, Shannon Turner (Shane), Jason Hoard (Kacie), and Adam Glass (Sheri). Her great-grandchildren, Abigail Carter (Blaze), Holly Adams (Calvin), Lily Turner, Serai Hoard, Aslyn Hoard, Sawyer Hoard, and Lexi Glass, great-great-grandchildren, Aiden Carter, Embree Carter, Stetson Adams, Scottie Adams, Luna Glass, Jordan Glass and Eloise Glass.
Sarah's extended family includes nieces Bobbie Hamilton and Susan S. Chumley, nephew, George David, and several cousins. She would consider these very special friends/neighbors, Jenny and Kim Baggett, extended family, too.
A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and therapists at Wellstar Spalding and Wellstar Sylvan Grove for the great care given to her.
