Sarah Jacqueline Thompson, 83, of
Sullivan, Missouri, affectionately known as Jackie, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, at her home. Born on July 5, 1942, in Potosi, Missouri, to Ernest and Bernice (Voss) Barnes, Jackie's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and her commitment to serving others.
Jackie grew up in the close-knit communities of Potosi, St. James, and
Sullivan, Missouri, where she attended local schools. A proud graduate of Sullivan High School in 1960, Jackie's early life laid the foundation for the compassionate and spirited woman she would become. She married the love of her life, Jim Thompson, and together they were blessed with three children: Scott, Tom, and Suzanne. Jackie's role as a mother was one of her greatest joys, and she nurtured her family with the same kindness and dedication that she extended to all aspects of her life.
For many years, Jackie worked as the Secretary for Sullivan Middle School, where she touched the lives of countless students and staff with her warmth and professionalism. In 1992, Jackie and Jim moved to Arkansas, where she continued to shine as a beacon of community spirit. There, Jackie's passion for volunteering was recognized when she was honored as the 1994-95 "Volunteer of the Year" for Blytheville Nursing Center. Whether in nursing homes or schools, Jackie's presence was a source of comfort and joy to those she served.
Returning to Sullivan in 2002, Jackie continued to be a pillar of strength and support in her community. She was instrumental in leading Weight Watcher programs, helping countless individuals on their journeys to wellness and self-improvement.
Jackie's commitment to her community was matched only by her devotion to her faith. An active member of Temple Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School, assisted as a church secretary in her early years, and lived out her Christian beliefs with every action. Her faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of her life, providing strength and guidance through every season.
Music was one of Jackie's many passions, and she found great pleasure in playing the ukulele. As a founding member of the "Dipsy Doodles" ukulele band, she brought smiles and laughter to many. Jackie's love for life also found expression in line dancing, golfing, and traveling. Panama City Beach held a special place in her heart, and she reveled in the sun and sand at every opportunity.
A collector at heart, Jackie's home was adorned with a cherished collection of angels, each one a reminder of her belief in the divine and the goodness of people. Her love for her family was boundless, and she cherished every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jackie's servant's heart was evident in her constant care for others, and her ability to make things happen earned her the reputation of a true mover and shaker.
Those who knew Jackie will remember her for her witty sense of humor and her uncanny ability to look out for others. She was a woman of action, kind and faith-filled, who left an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone she encountered.
