COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Sarah Frances Verble, a cherished homemaker and devoted member of her community, passed away peacefully at age 96, Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Signature Health Care of Putnam County. Born on September 10, 1928, in Putnam County, Sarah lived a life dedicated to her family, faith, and personal interests.
A lifelong member of Paran Church, she exemplified unwavering faith and service throughout her life. Sarah was well known for her talents in sewing, quilting, and creating unique Barbie clothes, all of which reflected her creative spirit. In her leisure time, Sarah enjoyed diving into puzzles, especially 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles and adult coloring, activities that brought her joy and relaxation.
Sarah received her education at the Cookeville City School, located where the current city hall stands. She would go on to nurture her family with the same love and attention she garnered from her own upbringing.
Sarah is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Justice) Ward of Cookeville; her sons, Bruce (Sarah H.) Verble of Cookeville and Jeff (Trudie) Verble of Antioch; her grandchildren, Stacy (Charles) Whited of Cookeville, Jason Ward of Cookeville, Carley Verble of Los Angeles, CA, Stephanie Verble of Sparta, Brittany (Travis) Hampton of Clarksville, and Christopher Verble of Nashville; as well as her great-grandchildren, Benjamin Whited of Murfreesboro, Aaron Whited of Cookeville, and Atlynn and Cowan Hampton of Clarksville.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lydia Mae Davis Steele; her step-father, Walter Steele; her husband, Charles H. Verble; and her sister, Dorothy Hill.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3PM on Thursday, March 27th, 2025 from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Peak and Rev. Donna Peak officiating.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2PM until the time of service.
Mrs. Verble's request for cremation is being honored and the family will have a private inurnment at Paran Cemetery at a later date.
Sarah Frances Verble will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, creative passions, and the deep love she held for her family. Her legacy will undoubtedly live on through the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
The family request memorial donations be made to the Paran Church Cemetery fund, 3812 Paran Road, Cookeville, TN 38506.
