Obituary For Sarah Jane Wallingford

Born on April 5, 1989, Jane slipped away from us on August 28, 2025 after prolonged illness and determined struggle. She was a graduate of Maury High School, Mary Washington University, in the ODU Graduate School of Business. In between teaching English in Viareggio, Italy and serving as Assistant Director of Continuous Process Improvement at NYU, she also worked at Timberline Resort, Kayak Nature Tours, the Birch, ADP, Sentara Health, and Guidehouse.

A former President of the Hampton Roads Brewing and Tasting Society, Jane was also an award- winning brewer. In her healthier days, she played for the Norfolk Storm Women's Division II Rugby Team, fenced with renaissance groups, kayaked, practiced yoga, camped, entertained and traveled. A feisty, bold and independent thinker, Jane was inquisitive about nature and the mysteries of life. She was fun loving, adventurous, and kind, and her warm and generous heart will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her father Walter Wallingford, her mother Donna Briggs, sister Mary Mab) Wallingford, brothers David and John Wallingford, and Stephen and Eric Land and their families. A celebration of her all too brief life will be held on Saturday, October 4th beginning at 2:00 PM at the Fred Huette Center on Botetourt Gardens in Norfolk.

Simply Cremation is assisting the family with the arrangements.
