Sarah Work Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brooks Funeral Home - Connellsville on Mar. 17, 2026.
Sarah Etta (Stickel) Work, 105, of Mill Run, passed away peacefully, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 14, 2026. She was born May 27, 1920, in Connellsville, the daughter of the late Sarah Etta (Showalter) Stickel and August Charles Stickel. She grew up with three older brothers, Eugene, August, and Clay, and a younger sister, Samantha (Stickel) Gallentine. Sarah attended South Side Elementary School and graduated from Connellsville High School in 1938. She continued her education at Carnegie Tech, where she studied in the dietary field. In 1940, she married Glenn S. Work. The couple made their home in Mill Run, where they raised their two children, Glenda (Work) King and Randall Work, Sr. Sarah was a longtime member of Indian Creek Baptist Church in Mill Run, where she faithfully taught Sunday School for more than 40 years. She was also employed in the food service department at the Springfield Elementary Schools in Normalville and Mill Run. She was very active in her community throughout her life. Sarah served for many years as a 4-H leader and was a member of the Lions Auxiliary, the Springfield Township Fireman's Auxiliary, and the Mill Run Recreation Board. Together with her husband, she established Work's Turkey Farm, where for many years they provided fresh turkeys to families throughout the area for Thanksgiving and Christmas. In 1973, Sarah, her husband, their two children, and their families founded Mill Run Campground, which is now known as Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort. She remained actively involved in the business for more than 20 years. Sarah also enjoyed traveling with her husband. Together they visited many places, including Mexico, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and numerous destinations across the United States. She found great joy in simple pleasures such as baking cookies with her grandchildren, watching and feeding the birds, and caring for her outdoor flowers and plants. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn S. Work; her parents; her three brothers; and her sister. Sarah was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her two children, Glenda King (Ronald) and Randall Work, Sr. (Connie); six grandchildren: Scott King (Tracy), Randall Work Jr. (Roxanne), Cindy Denholm (Gary), Robert M. Work, James King, and Danny Work (Amanda). She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren: Josh King; Ryan Work (Cristi); Heather Work (Ryan); Megan King (Joey); Brandy Leighty; Erica Burnsworth (Rodney); Olivia Work (Carter); Josh Sorrels; Heaven Sorrels; Autumn Simons (Wyatt); Michael J. Work; Maddie Work; and Sophia King. In addition, she was blessed with nine great-great-grandchildren: Brody, Payton, Hadley, Macy, Coen, Raegan, Colton, Sawyer, and Rhett. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers for their kindness, compassion, and support. She will be greatly missed by her family, but her love and the many memories she created will remain with them always. Family and friends will be received from 2-8 P.M. Sunday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville. Additional viewing will take place on Monday in the Indian Creek Baptist Church, Mill Run from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon, the hour of funeral services with Rev. Kevin Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in the Indian Creek Baptist Cemetery. To offer a condolence or remembrance please visit www.brooksfuneralhomes.com
