Sarah Wright

Sarah McGee Wright, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on March 01, 2026, at The Legacy Assisted Living in Tuscaloosa. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 06, 2026, at 1:00pm, from Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00pm. Graveside interment will be at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.

Ms. Wright was preceded in death by her parents Robert McGee and Elizabeth McGee, daughter Teresa Wright Sides and a sister Patricia Edmonds (Bobby). She is survived by her husband of 62 years Gerald Wright, daughter Lisa Wright Morgan (Dale), grandchildren Trevor Sides, Matthew Morgan (Angel), and Cole Morgan (Kaitlyn) and a brother Kenneth McGee (Romona).

Affectionately known as "Mamaw," Mrs. Wright was a lifelong learner. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a master's degree. Her career as an English teacher at Brookwood Highschool, helped her to make a difference in the lives of others. After her retirement, she spent her days in her garden, tending to her many plants and beautiful flowers. When visiting, guests were always asked to take the blueberry and plant tour around the house on the golf cart. Mamaw also enjoyed spending time in her sunroom, reading and watching the hundreds of hummingbirds as well as other birds that frequented her many feeders.

She made it a point to be as engaged as possible with her grandsons, whom she loved and cherished. As they were able to enjoy many wonderful weekends and summers on the hillside. She spent many hours reading to her grandsons and attending school events.

She lived a life of generosity and purpose, truly, having a heart for helping others. She was known for her warm smile and joyful spirit. Mamaw never met a stranger, as her own kindness and easy-going nature drew her to others, wherever she went. Her last year was spent in The Legacy Assisting Living, where she made many new friends who she loved and supported through her final days.

The family wishes to extend the most special thanks to the team at ProHealth Hospice, for ensuring Sarah's comfort and peace. They are also truly thankful for the dedication of the staff at The Legacy Assisted Living, and her sitter Rita, who provided compassionate care in her final days.

Sarah truly embodied the adage of a life well lived, she will be profoundly missed
