Mrs. Saramma Thomas (Ammachi)
September 7, 1927 – September 19, 2025
With deep love and heartfelt emotions, we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Saramma Thomas, affectionately known as Ammachi, who left us to be with the Lord on Friday, September 19th, at the age of 98. She was surrounded by her devoted family at home, just as she had always surrounded them-with grace, prayer, and unconditional love.
Ammachi was the cherished mother of Dr. Anna Mathew (Jessie), Thomas Thomas (Rajan), Mary Mathew (Mercy), and Sally Mathew, and a beloved mother-in-law to George Mathew, Lalu Thomas, Professor Joseph Mathew, and Dr. John Mathew. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, the late Mr. C.T. Thomas (Appachan), her grandson Alvin, her elder sisters Chinnamma and Kunjamma, and her younger brother Thankachen (N.G. John). She is survived by her younger sister Pennamma, whose bond with Ammachi remained strong and tender through the years.
Ammachi was deeply blessed by her grandchildren and spouses-Avin & Serra, Jay & Divya, Jason & Ria, Julie & Dan, Jerry & Betty, Jamie, Bryan, and Sarah-and by thirteen great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy and laughter. Her legacy lives on in each of them, in the values she instilled and the love she so freely gave.
Together, Appachan and Ammachi were among the founding members of the Singapore Mar Thoma Church, where they served faithfully and helped nurture a vibrant spiritual community. Their commitment to ministry continued after their move to the United States in 1978, where they played an active role in the formation of the Chicago Mar Thoma Church. Their home was a haven of hospitality, prayer, and service-an extension of their deep faith and generous hearts.
Ammachi will be remembered not only for her quiet strength and enduring love, but for the way she touched lives-with a gentle word, a warm meal, a faithful prayer. Her life was a testimony to God's grace, and her legacy continues to inspire all who knew her.
We give thanks for her long and beautiful life, and we rejoice in the promise that she now rests in the presence of the Lord she loved so dearly.
