Scherry Ann Perkins Braziel

Scherry Ann Perkins Braziel passed away on February 20, 2023, at UT Health Tyler at 5:00 AM. She was born on February 14, 1940 in Gilmer, TX to Bascom and Mildred Perkins. She grew up in Mt. Pleasant, TX where she enjoyed band, her studies, and being with her beloved sister Gail.

In 1958, she graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School as valedictorian. Then she attended East Texas State University in Commerce (now Texas A&M University-Commerce) where she graduated with top honors. After this, she decided to follow in the footsteps of her father and become an attorney. She attended The University of Texas School of Law, being only one of four females enrolled in the school. In 1965, she graduated with highest honors. Upon graduation, she returned to Mt. Pleasant to form Perkins & Perkins Law Firm with her father. She was the first female attorney in Titus County. Her cases would range from complicated land deeds to adoptions to even being the advocate for the child. She truly wanted to help people.

On June 3rd, 1970, she married the love of her life, LM “Bunker” Braziel, whom she met while attending law school. They made their home in Emory, and she commuted to Mt. Pleasant for years to work as an attorney. She also co-owned with her mother Merle Norman Cosmetics.

On March 21, 1974, they were blessed with their only child, Kristi Ann Braziel.

While living in Emory, she had many friends, and would also help people of Rains County as an attorney. She served on the Rains County Child Welfare Board and Pilot Club of Mt. Pleasant. She was a faithful member of the Emory church of Christ and taught children’s Bible classes.

She is preceded in death by her parents Bascom & Mildred Perkins, a grandson Vesuvius Lee Williams, her husband LM “Bunker” Braziel, her brother-in-law Dan Richardson and her sister Gail Richardson.

The family she leaves behind are daughter Kristi Ann Braziel Williams and husband, Landon, grandsons MacGregor London Lee Williams and Landon McCallon Kolt Williams, brother-in-law John Robert Braziel and wife Kay Braziel, along with nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Services will be held at Emory church of Christ with Paul David Baker officiating on Friday, February 24 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
