Scipio Freeman, Jr. was born on March 9, 1937 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to Scipio Freeman and Goldie Bush. He was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Scipio A. Jones High School in North Little Rock. He later joined the U.S. Army and retired earning the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8). He is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He went on to work at GM in Parma, Ohio until he permanently left the workforce in 1993.
1981 was distinctive year in Scipio's life; it is the year he professed faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, and the year he married Charlie Mae Maiden. During their 42 years of marriage they developed some great memories together. They particularly enjoyed traveling together. Their travels took them to places such as Hawaii (8 times), Europe, several Caribbean Islands and all over the U.S. Scipio and Charlie provided loving patriarchal and matriarchal leadership to four succeeding generations of family.
Scipio was a trivia and spelling wiz, and loved talking about history. He enjoyed watching sports and movies. His annual pilgrimage to their winter home in Florida was always a highlight for him he enjoyed the privilege of being a snowbird! It might be worth noting that he left this earthly life on the morning after a major snow storm. No more snow storms for Scipio!
Scipio was preceded in death by his parents, Scipio, Sr. and Goldie, and his sister, Margaret Ann Morris.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Charlie Mae; his brother, Michael Freeman (Marian); five children, Carl Williams (Cassandra), Patricia Poole, Sonja Cooper (Andre), Calvin Brown, Sr. (Robin) and Carmen Freeman; 19 grandchildren, great children and great great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
Scipio will be greatly missed by us all. We are celebrating his life by remembering how special he was and the impact he had on so many people, especially his family.
