Scooter McKee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Griffin Funeral Home - West Monroe on Jan. 16, 2026.
Scooter was born August 14, 1969, in Minden, Louisiana. He was a 1987 graduate of Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, who went on to be a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union locally. He worked as a travelling welder before becoming employed at formally Riverwood, now Graphic Packaging in West Monroe for 24 years; afterwards employing at Drax Inc., in Olla for the last 6 years.
He excelled in his work ethic being awarded the nationally recognized "One Drax Award" that is given only to one employee out of the top 10% nominated for job excellence. This exemplifies the hardworking, dedicated, and career-minded man that he was. He devoted himself fully to providing for his family and in the process developed lasting friendships with those he worked alongside. His personality and presence had a way of leaving quite the memorable impression; many times, we've heard "Oh yes, I know Scooter " He prided himself in nicknames, poking and prodding, and one-liners.
He was a faithful friend who found himself at the aid of many friends and loved ones in what seemed their greatest need. He did it without hesitation. Coarse, outspoken, unfiltered yet compassionate, tender, and capable all describe yet only scratch the surface of who this man really was.
He loved spending any free time at his Papaw MH's house at Duty Ferry on the Ouachita River, the place we all know as "The Camp." He has an avid outdoorsman his whole life, having a great love and passion for fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed time on his Kubota tractor, talking often about his prized vegetables and any gardening he was doing. He referred to his wife, Amy, as his "child bride," accomplishing 33 years of marriage. The two first met on the school bus at the tender ages of 15 and 17. Scooter looked at Amy and knew their love was meant to be having famously said, "I don't know who that is, but I'm gonna marry her " Their lasting love story has endured a total of 38 memorable years together. He was a most loving husband, father, son, brother, and "Papaw," a title he carried so dearly.
He loved his country and would be considered a true patriot, enjoying the freedoms that we all hold near and dear in this great land. He also was a man of faith, knowing The Good Lord and having his own personal relationship with our Savior. Scooter leaves behind a legacy that is best represented in his three sons. He raved about his boys and was so proud of how they have established themselves in life: Garrett, Journeyman Electrician, Grant, Registered Nurse, and Mitchell, Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Technologist. He established values and qualities in his sons, among others, that will carry them throughout life.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, M.H. McKee and Doris Oliveaux McKee, mother and father-in-law, James and Bobbie Smith.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife, Amy McKee; children, Garrett McKee and wife Robin, Grant McKee and wife Haley, and Mitchell McKee; brother, Steve McKee and wife Stacy, brother-in-law Tommy Smith, sister-in-law Jane Stokes and Mickey; parents, Melvin McKee, Sr. and Renee McKee.
He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Hunter, Ledger, Harper, and Audrey: nephews, Matthew Stokes, Jared Stokes, Cody and Sam McKee, as well as a host of numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
We want to acknowledge the close bonds and faithful friendships and thank those at Drax and Graphic Packaging and his lifelong friends who have stood by through it all.
Pallbearers will be Garrett, Grant and Mitchell McKee, Steve McKee, Stephen Clampit, and Buddy George.
Honorary Pallbearers will include his Drax and Graphic Packaging Family.
