Scot Douglas Bendixsen of Carlsbad, NM, returned to his heavenly home at the age of 63 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The collision occurred while traveling to Lubbock, Texas on April 29, 2022 where he regularly served as a temple worker for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Scot was born on November 19, 1958 in Provo, Utah to parents Laura Nelle (Taylor) Bendixsen and Grant Douglas Bendixsen. He was the seventh of eight children and grew up in a loving home in Riverdale where he enjoyed choir, playing the trumpet, hunting, fishing, playing tennis, and helping his father turn homes into duplexes in the summers. He graduated from Bonneville High School in 1977. Beginning in February of 1978, he served a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Nagoya, Japan Mission. Scot met the love of his life, Lynette (Tenney) Bendixsen, on a blind date shortly after returning home. He followed her to Mesa, AZ, where the two were wed in 1980 in the Mesa Arizona Temple for time and all eternity. He attended Arizona State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance in 1985 while managing an apartment complex to make ends meet. He landed his first professional job in Human Resources in 1986 at FMC, a gold mining corporation in Hawthorne, Nevada and moved his growing family of five there. His next big venture in life came in 1990 when he was offered a job in Carlsbad, New Mexico, and once again moved the family that had now grown to seven. While working, he enrolled in graduate school, obtaining a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management. Scot lived the remainder of his life in Carlsbad growing the family one larger to a total of eight, working as the personnel director for the City of Carlsbad for over 27 years, teaching night classes at the local college, and spending time with his kids including coaching them in youth soccer and little league baseball, as well as tennis as the assistant tennis coach for Carlsbad High School.
Scot loved his family above all else as well as being a dedicated and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He led by example with his faith, strong values, and morals. It was not uncommon to find him helping his family and others in the community by replacing roofs, working on vehicles, moving families, and anything else needing done in his spare time. He served as the local Scout Master for many years for the Boy Scouts of America, and had the privilege of aiding all four of his sons to achieve the highest rank of Eagle. He was also the first to hold local merit badge jamborees, helping hundreds of young men advance their life skills. Scot had a love for the outdoors and an intense passion for teaching the sport of tennis to the youth. He helped lead the Carlsbad high school tennis team to six team state titles and numerous individual championships over a period of 23 years of coaching. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, making memories camping and hiking with his wife and children frequently. He loved telling stories, often times going on several minutes of side tangents for additional details that had little to do with the original story. They were stories inside of stories that were so enjoyable to listen to because you never knew where they would end up. While working for the city, his children lovingly joked that he became an expert at the Windows games Minesweeper and Solitaire as he multi-tasked. He loved silly mind challenging games to pass his time and prove he was smarter than the computer, which ultimately he always was. One can't say enough about how great a father and husband he was. He was the gold standard of what a man should be. He taught by example to work hard, love everyone, and always be kind. He instilled the importance of family to each of his kids and taught them how to live life to its fullest. He will be dearly missed by all including his family, neighbors, colleagues, fellow church members, those who called him coach, and all whose lives he touched.
Scot is preceded in death by both parents, sisters Sanoma (Bendixsen) Burke, Tanya (Bendixsen) Fierro, and granddaughter Eva Bendixsen. He is survived by his wife Lynette (Tenney) Bendixsen, his six children Chad Douglas Bendixsen and wife Amber, Lynae Bendixsen, Loren Scot Bendixsen and wife Ivette, Derik Grant Bendixsen and wife Kaity, Devin Pratt Bendixsen and wife Melissa, Amanda Bendixsen Christensen and husband Cory, and his 12 grandchildren Addison, Arabella, Oaklee, Gid, X'chel, Owen, Lyla, Aspen, Fynnley, Kera, Axel, and Jase. He is also survived by his brother Jan Robin Bendixsen, and four sisters Lewanna (Bendixsen) Christianson, Joy (Bendixsen) Bastow, Fonda (Bendixsen) Evans, and Patrice (Bendixsen) Ervin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Scot will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at Visitation will be held at West Funeral Home at Private burial services will follow in Montrose, Colorado at a later date.
Because of Scot's faithful dedication to temple work, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Scot's honor to the Temple Construction Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, facilitated by LDS Philanthropies at https://donate.churchofjesuschrist.org/donations/church/temples

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Scot. I had the opportunity to work with Scot at the City and can´t begin to tell you how much I appreciated his professionalism over the years and his help when it came time for me to leave the City and medically retire. He wrote letters on my behalf and it made a huge difference in my life. I´m so glad that he was able to retire himself and I know he will be greatly missed. I´ll be praying for his family.
