Scot John Thompson’s adventurous, risk-taking life defied the cliché “you only live once.” His far too brief 53 years began in Joplin Missouri and ended in Montgomery, Texas. In between he rowed for his high school team in Oxford, England, rode horses in Zimbabwe, parachuted out of planes in Russia, deep sea fished in Costa Rica, and ran a lucrative energy fund in Houston. Scot traveled wildly, loved his family fiercely, and carried an intense passion for outstanding food which ranged from grilled Bluefin Tuna to M & M Blizzards at Dairy Queen. His unique intelligence, knowledge of current world events, and historical perspective made it clear that he was by far the smartest person in every room he entered. Scot had a laser quick wit with the ability to instantaneously fire a comeback at anyone. He was also a goofball with a quirky sense of humor, often spontaneously quoting South Park and Will Ferrell movies. His love of music ranged from Pink to Louis Armstrong, and he enjoyed sharing his favorite songs with family and friends. Scot is survived by his daughters Abby and Hannah, his wife Julie, his brother Tod, his nieces Maja and Zoe, his father Roy N. Thompson, and his sister Kelli. A private service for immediate family will be held at Emerald Hills to honor Scot’s life.
