In Loving Memory of Scott Brown

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we share the passing of our beloved Scott Brown on September 28, 2025, following a brief illness. Scott's absence leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who cherished him, especially his devoted partner Sandy Coccaro and her family, his beloved brother David Brown, sister-in-law Kim Brown, niece, nephew and extended family.

Scott was born and grew up in Reading, Pa where he attended Muhlenberg High School. He was a trumpet player in both the Spoiler Jazz band and marching band. In addition to musical interests he was also a district level cross country runner at Muhlenberg. Outside of school Scott was an active member of the Boy Scouts where he obtained the rank of Life Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed a family trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM, where he completed the hike to the Tooth of Time. While growing up he enjoyed flying RC airplanes with his father and brother. His love of flying reach a peak when in the late 70s he got his private pilot license and purchased his beloved Piper Cherokee from the Reading Aero Club, where he was a member. Scott moved from Reading to Daytona Beach to attend and later graduate from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU). After graduation, he started his way back to Reading but only made as far as Virginia Beach where he resided until his passing. While in Virginia Beach, Scott took great pride in providing food service options to multiple military bases across multiple states, for over 30 years.

Scott was the kind of person who could light up a room with a single smile-a rare soul whose warmth and kindness lifted everyone around him. He touched so many lifes with his soft words, kind heart, warm-slight smile and perfectly timed humor. His joy for life was contagious, and his presence was a gift to countless communities that embraced him as one of their own.

A passionate outdoorsman and adventurer, Scott found deep purpose in the natural world and the people who shared it withhim. He was a beloved dive instructor at Lynnhaven Dive Shop, where he nurtured a loving dive community. His mornings often began with his 6 a.m. gym crew and continued with neighborhood walks, where he greeted every dog and passerby like an old friend. To those in Heron's Cove, he was affectionately known as "the mayor"-a title earned through countless acts of kindness and connection.

Scott's spirit of service was unwavering. He was a longtime member of the TSAR rescue team, a dedicated volunteer for Virginia Beach races and parades, and a cherished voice in his Virginia Beach Amateur Radio Club, where breakfast gatherings brimmed with laughter and camaraderie. He found peace kayaking the waters behind his home and joy in supporting the mission of Dr. Kok and the compassionate Virginia Oncology Associates (VOA) team at the Brock Cancer Center.

In keeping with his generous heart, Scott requested that donations be made to the Sentera Brock Center - Virginia Oncology Associates (VOA) and ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital-two causes close to his soul. Scott Brown was more than loved-he was deeply admired. His legacy is one of joy, service, and unwavering kindness. He made the world brighter, and we are all better for having known him.

Scott and I worked together for many years in the foodservice industry after he got me a job at SegMark in Virginia Beach. I am grateful to him for showing me the ropes and nurturing me along the way as I started my career. We had so many fun times at food shows and in the office. I will cherish all the laughs along the way.

To David, Kim, Jack and Piper my deepest condolences. May your hearts be filled with beautiful memories of Scott as you cherish his memory. I have many of them as I reflect over our years of marriage. Even in the midst of divorce we cherished our friendship for years afterwards. As I read the words spoken of him, I couldn´t agree more. Scott meant a lot to those he socialized with and Herons Cove was very special to him. May his partner find peace that passes all understanding during this time of grief.
