Kathleen Cecilia Killian, born on August 11, 1961, in Ocean County, NJ, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, in Norfolk, VA, at the age of 64.
Kathleen was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother whose life was defined by service and love for her family. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Kathleen dedicated her early years to serving her country. Following her military service, she continued her commitment to helping others as an EMT in New Jersey for many years. Later, she worked diligently as Security at Dillard's Department Store, where her dedication and kindness were evident to all who knew her.
A long-time Jersey girl, Kathleen relocated to Virginia Beach, VA, in 2011, embracing her new community while fondly cherishing memories of her roots. Her heart, however, always belonged to her family, especially her cherished grandchildren, who were her greatest joy. Kathleen often dreamt of visiting Ireland, reflecting her vibrant spirit and adventurous heart.
Preceding Kathleen in death were her beloved parents, Francis and Alice (Grant) Carpenter; her infant son, James Gregory Zahn; her dear sister, Patricia Sanzari; her nephew Kenny, and Deanna Gatto, whom she
loved as her own.
Kathleen leaves behind her devoted husband, John Scott Killian, Sr., and her loving children: Andrew Zahn, John Killian Jr., Breanna Killian, and Michael Killian. She is also survived by her sister, Alicia Hibbs, and her children, Perry Hibbs Jr, Francis Hibbs, and Caitie Hibbs, and brother, Francis Carpenter and his children, Kevin & Francine. Her memory will forever be cherished by her grandchildren: Skylar Harris, Riley Harris, Ava Killian, John Ryder Killian, Cali Killian, and Chris Killian.
Kathleen Cecilia Killian will be remembered for her unwavering love, her dedication to service, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her.
