Scott Keith Doughty passed away on October 21st, 2024 at Maine Medical Center after a brief illness. He was a deeply loved father, son, brother, friend, and car salesman to so many.
Scott was born in Wahoo, Nebraska on December 28, 1960. Soon after, his family returned to his parents' hometown of Falmouth, Maine, where he was raised. He graduated from Falmouth High School in 1979, much to the chagrin of the many, many teachers he played pranks on in his youth.
Not long after high school, Scott's spirit of adventure took him to the west coast, joining his brother in San Diego. There, when not making a go at a professional soccer career, he worked a variety of odd jobs including being actor Pat Morita's limo driver (who lovingly called him "Apple-Pan Doughty") and modeling for a tourism brochure in Hawaii.
Eventually, his adventurous spirit led him back to Maine where he met his first wife, Karen after a bizarre pickup line involving a McDonald's that only he could have pulled off. They had three children whom he adored: Niels in 1992, Amanda in 1994, and Travis in 2000.
Scott was a business owner and car salesman operating Gray New Gloucester Auto and Truck for many years. Well aware of the necessity of transportation, he was always willing to help those who needed a car in any way he could. There, he met his second wife, Providence. She was applying for a car loan and he asked if he could fill out an application to be her boyfriend. They married in 2019 and shared their home with Providence's daughter, Melissa.
Scott enjoyed many hobbies including playing golf, soccer, cards, as well as supporting New England sports teams. He loved to laugh and had an infectious sense of humor. He was in the process of renovating a house in Florida and was looking forward to retiring there. But, above all else, he was looking forward to becoming a grandfather.
Scott is survived by his wife Providence and her daughter, Melissa Ahirwe; his father Robert Doughty Sr.; children Niels Doughty, Amanda Mirabella and her partner, Michel, and Travis Doughty. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Jr., and his children, Reagan Doughty, Kayla Fox and her husband Robbie, and their son Bjorn; his sister Lesley Doughty and her partner Judy. His first grandchildren, Luca and Emilio Mirabella, are expected to arrive in December.
Visitation will be on November 8, 2024 at 11 AM at Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray, Maine with a funeral service at noon and a committal service to follow at Gray Village Cemetery. After the committal, a reception will be held at the American Legion Hall at 15 Lewiston Rd in Gray. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating or supporting the Harris/Walz campaign, a cause Scott was very passionate about in his final days.
