Scott Riker Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 9, 2022.
Scott Edward Riker, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away on August 1, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife, Amy, and daughter, Kendra. As we reflect on Scott's 57 years, we recognize his vast accomplishments in the career he was so proud of, his immense love for those close to him, and his ability to find humor in any situation.
Scott was born to Margaret and Reamer Riker on July 14, 1965, in Rapid City, South Dakota, and soon after moved to District Heights, Maryland. Scott found his passion in firefighting at the age of 16. This passion led to a long career full of memories, friendships & accomplishments, with zero regrets. Scott ultimately reached Lieutenant rank, was involved in the Technical Rescue, and proudly served the Prince George's County Fire Department, Maryland, from 1981 until he retired in 2007.
Scott met his true love, Amy, at the Twin Towers in New York City. It was an unforgettable day and the start of a strong relationship full of love and adoration. The two married in 1999 and built their life together in Accokeek, Maryland. It was there they began to raise their family and create the cherished moments that inevitably come from an active multi-child family. No one could stop Scott from reminiscing about the camping trips, countless days at the soccer field, sledding on the hill in Fort Washington, taking the kids to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade many times, and countless holiday celebrations. Scott moved his family to Cape Coral, Florida, upon his retirement where the memories continued with a little extra sunshine and the Gulf of Mexico.
In his free time, Scott enjoyed creating impressive pieces of art made of wood, leather, and metal. He loved sitting in the driveway trying new recipes on the smoker and going for scenic drives to pick up fresh seafood. He never turned down a boat ride, especially to Cabbage Key for his Cheeseburger in Paradise, and felt the peace of a park by the water. He was known as a prankster and loved playing jokes on his family and friends. More than anything, though, Scott loved quality time.
As their special song questions, Scott's absence leaves Amy wondering,
"How do I get through one night without you,
If I had to live without you.
What kinda life would that be?
Oh I, I need you in my arms, need you to hold.
You're my world, my heart, my soul."
Scott is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Amy (Van Houten) Riker, formally of Bethel, Connecticut; his children, Andrew Hill of Ridgefield, Connecticut; Katelyn Coladarci of Virginia; Vanessa Hill of Norwalk, Connecticut; Kendra Riker of Cape Coral, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren.
