Scott J. Shoemaker, 62, of Slovan, PA passed away peacefully at home on July 9, 2025, after a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Born July 31, 1962 he is survived by his parents, Fred and Judith Shoemaker. Scott was the loving partner of Kimberly Chirico, and is also survived by sisters Michele (Bob) Jakiel, Lori (Charlie) Hoffman, Jill Shoemaker, and Susan (David Elkins) Shoemaker as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Scott was an exceptionally talented ceramic tile artist who created beautiful, original, personalized tile designs to give his clients a truly unique finished work. Many of his clients loved his work so much that they became repeat customers. Also a skilled mechanic, Scott enjoyed restoring classic cars, in particular his 1964 Oldsmobile 98. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with friends, camping (building really big campfires) and adding to his expansive and eclectic coin collection. He had a lifelong love of dogs, especially his beloved German Shepherds, Sheba, Midnite and Duchess, who brought him boundless love and companionship.
Scott, often called "Shoe" by his closest friends, was always there to lend a helping hand. He would be upset if he discovered a friend had needed help but failed to ask for it. At the same time, he was the guy who seldom asked for help from others. Scott will be deeply missed by the neighborhood or "bus stop gang" of friends who are still tightly connected 55 years later.
Scott's youthful outlook on life led to bonding with his friends' children. So many memories of the joy in their children's eyes when Scott would engage them in play, tease and tickle. Scott would drop all his boundaries for children, allowing them to pat his fish tank with sticky fingers and leave "kissy lip" marks on the glass because "they wanted to kiss the fish".
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 at 10am at the Chapel in the Mausoleum at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, 401 Curry Hollow Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Due to continuing construction on Curry Hollow Rd., please add an extra 15-20 minutes to your travel time for traffic congestion. All arrangements were private and entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care.
Please feel free to add your memories, stories and thoughts on this site for Scott's friends and loved ones to enjoy.
