Obituary published on Legacy.com by Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home from Jan. 20 to Jan. 21, 2026.
Scott Stables was born on November 18, 1972, in Aberdeen, Scotland, to loving parents, June Muriel Stables (née Bowman) and Ian Johnston Stables. Scott was very fond of his Scottish childhood, which he shared with his sister and friend, Susan Forte. Their home was full of laughter, surrounded by grandparents, family, and friends. Scott was an active and inquisitive boy who spent his days-when he wasn't in school-running free as children should: fishing, camping with his family, riding bikes, and fostering his avid curiosity by taking electronics apart and sometimes getting them back together, without worrying about the pile of leftover parts. He had numerous adventures with his lifelong, rollicking mates.
Scott attended Robert Gordon College and went on to study at London Guildhall University, earning a degree in business law. He further continued his education at Robert Gordon University, earning an MSc in IT engineering. Scott moved to America in 2002 through his work, and it was there that he met his wife, Gretta. Scott and Gretta were married on February 25, 2006, in Aberdeen, Scotland. Scott was a devoted husband who provided gentleness, stability, and affection. They settled in
Naperville, Illinois, USA, and raised two daughters, Chloe June and Magdalen "Maggie" Rose, who were the focus of his love, pride, and absolute delight . Scott was never cross and could never say no to his girls, always providing just the right amount of silliness-especially at bedtime. He encouraged all their interests and rooted for them at every sports game and activity. Both girls have fond memories of playing all their favorite songs and singing loudly together in the car. Scott, Gretta, and their daughters loved to visit friends and family in Scotland and travel around Europe, creating a lifetime of memories they will hold forever dear. He always put his family first, above all else.
Scott was a friend to all and was happiest sitting by a fire listening to music or lending a helping hand especially if it involved power tools or multiple trips to Menards. He found humor in almost every situation and always had a dad joke ready to go. Scott loved all things cars, especially vintage British cars, and enjoyed tinkering with old engines. He was enthusiastic about learning new technology, most recently trying to teach his daughters about quantum computing and generative AI. He hoped to live to see extraterrestrial disclosure, thought submarines were wicked cool, wanted to be a pilot, and liked to drive fast cars. He loved animals, especially his dogs, but had a soft spot for Siamese cats as well. For Scott, a house was not a home without a Labrador. Scott would tell you now to take the trips, never put off adopting a dog, and make the memories now rather than later.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, June Muriel (née Bowman) and Ian Johnston Stables.
Scott is survived by his devoted wife, Gretta Stables, who has vowed to find him again in every lifetime; his daughters, Chloe June and Magdalen Rose (Maggie), who will eternally miss him; his adoring sister, Susan Samantha Forte (Louis Forte); niece Teagan Dakota; nephew Carson Daniel Ethan; mother-in-law and biggest fan, Margie Hunssinger; his cousin, who was as close as a brother, Richard Stables (Susan); Aunt Lydia and Uncle Jim Stables; and cousin Allan Stables. He is also survived by his lifelong best mates: Adam Cheyne (Cathy), Phil Smart (Morag), and Finlay Morrison (Fiona); Aunt Barbara and Uncle Richard Bowman; and cousins Sarah Keith (Jason) and Sally Bryant (Gary). He is further survived by his wife's family brother Johnny, niece "Gray" Jane and her lively cousins who adored Scott, her Aunt Rose-and their numerous cherished friends, both old and new.
The family would appreciate donations be made to the American Brain Tumor Association for research purposes, or to an animal charity of your choosing, in honor of our beloved Scott Stables.
